Competition Rules

As our programme shows we run a number of competitions throughout the year.

We encourage as many members of all abilities to enter the competitions as it helps develop everyones skills and see many interpretations of the theme.

Rushcliffe Photographic Society
Internal Competition Rules 2009-10.

The Society holds two internal Competitions during the season. These are the ‘Club Print & Projected Image’ and annual ‘Panel Print & Projected Image’ competitions. On Competition evenings images will be assessed by an external judge and awarded points.

There will also be non-competitive Critique evenings when an external judge will comment on the image, highlighting good and bad elements, and suggesting improvements to the image but no points will be awarded.

Both types of evening aim to improve the standard of the work within the society. These events are open to all paid-up members of Rushcliffe Photographic Society.

The 2009 Rushcliffe Photographic Society Open Projected Digital Image Competition

Rules of the Competition

1. The competition will be split into two categories:
Category A: Monochrome Digital Images
Category B: Colour Digital Images
2. Competition entrants should submit their images in JPG file format which can be sent via email or on a CD posted to the Competition Secretary (address below). All images should be given a suitable title together with the authors name and club.
3. For assessment and judging, entries will be viewed on a screen using a Digital LCD Projector.

Category (A):
1. Images should be Monochrome: A black and white image which has been modified by the addition of a single tone to the entire image is defined as a monochrome image. All other images are defined as colour images. A black and white image which has been modified by the addition of partial toning or by the addition of one colour to any part of the image is a colour image.
2. Images must be submitted in JPG file format.
3. Images can be manipulated or be as taken, but must be monochrome.
4. Images may be from digital camera or from scanned material but must be from original images photographed by the entrant. Images from external sources are not eligible i.e., Magazines, Book Illustrations etc. Use of copyright free photographs already existing on disc or online, etc is likewise ineligible.

Category (B):
1. Images should be in Colour
2. Images must be submitted in JPG file format.
3. Images can be manipulated or as taken and presented as a colour image.
4. Images may be from digital camera or from scanned material but must be from original images photographed by the entrant. Images from external sources are not eligible i.e., Magazines, Book Illustrations etc. Use of copyright free photographs already existing on disc or online, etc is likewise ineligible.
Entrants are advised that all images entered will be made available to all entrants in lo-res form (max 600 x 600) on a CD after the event. By entering the competition you grant Rushcliffe PS the permission and right to do this.

General:
The projection process will be in the form of a Slide Show compiled from the entrants’ submitted images, entrant’s images will be added to the competition folder ready for projection. Authors titles given to each slide will also be added to the projected image which should not include the author’s name.
It is accepted that file sizes will vary dependant on the source from which they are derived. Whilst we do not put any limit on file size, we would ask that they be kept at a reasonable level (ideal size would be max.1024 px (w) x max.768 px (h)) and we suggest they should have a resolution of between100 and 240dpi and must be submitted as .jpg format files.
To aid identification the file name attributed to each image should be the same as the entrant’s intended title for the competition. All discs and or CD’s must be clearly marked with the entrant’s name and club and be accompanied with a printed title list indicating intended category.
Entrants may submit a maximum of three images to each category. The same image may not be entered into both categories.
Assessment and judging will be in the same manner as traditional slide competitions with marks out of 20 being awarded for each image.
In order to give time to copy and compile all entered images into a slide show ready for projection on competition night all entries must reach the competition secretary not later than 8th December 2009. Please be aware of ongoing postal strikes – email may be better!
