Our Programme


September

8th - New members’ evening - A welcome evening for new members and returning members after our summer break. An exhibition of members work will be on show, and tea and biscuits will be provided! A great opportunity to meet the committee and members of the club.

15th - Photo treasure hunt - Our first activity of the year: Those in attendance will be split into small groups, typically 4/5 persons per group, led by one of the more experienced club members. Groups will be given a list of topics and will then go out into the night in an attempt to take pictures to represent each of the topics! A great way to get to know the club members.

22nd - Speaker - Our first speaker is Wayne Brittle, an excellent landscape photographer Wayne Brittle Photography

29th - 1st Club print & projected images competition - The first of four competitions for club members. The subject for this round is 'Reflections', and there are sections for printed images, and for projected images (slide or digital). There are categories for 'intermediates' (which usually includes new members and newcomers to photography) and 'advanced' which is for those of us that are a little more 'established' in the club! Bill Hall (DPAGB & AFIAP) will be the judge.

October

6th - Review of Photo Treasure Hunt images - Time to review the images we collected on 15 September. Each group will select its best shot for each of the topics, with each team member submitting at least one shot. A fairly light-hearted 'competition' and a chance to try out your critique skills!

8th - Inter-club Competition at Arnold & District Camera Club - The second round of our inter-club competition against Arnold camera club (the first round was held at Tollerton in May 2008). This time, the same prints submitted for the first round will be re-judged by a different judge. Fingers crossed for a Rushcliffe win!

13th - Technique evening - print mounting - Terry Draper will lead an opportunity for members to learn a few tricks and tips about print mounting.

20th - Critique evening - We're inviting a competition judge (Malcolm Sales ASWPP) to offer some advice on critique of photographs, pointing out how we can make our photographs better by considering aspects such as composition, lighting, viewpoint, etc.

27th - Shoot-out! – This evening will be spent out and about shooting in Nottingham City Centre. The intention will be to head out as a group and shoot anything interesting that takes our eye.

30th - Visit to West Bridgford Video & Slide Club - The club has been invited to visit WBVSC and to give them a short presentation on our work. Please note that the 30th October is a Friday and the event is from 8pm – 10pm.

November

3rd - Club panel competition - For the panel competition, groups of images (either digital, projected images, or prints) are submitted as a 'panel' for judging. This evening’s judge is to be David Gibbins (ARPS, APAGB & AFIAP)

10th - Review of the 'Shoot-out!' images - A review of the photographs taken on our evening out on 27 October.

17th - Speaker - The speaker tonight is David Fox who will be telling us about his close-up and macro photography.

24th - Critique evening - An opportunity for members to display some of their recent work for scrutiny by their peers. Hone your critique skills and pick up some ideas on how you might improve your images.

December

1st - 2nd Club print & projected images competition - Our second competition for club members. Submit your prints and/or projected images. On the theme of 'Abstracts'. Our judge is Sue Wilson (CPAGB)

8th - Table Top evening - Bring your camera and tripod. We'll have objects set up on table tops, various lighting set-ups, and opportunities to practice close up and still-life photography.

15th - Open Competition for projected digital images - A competition open to RPS members as well as members of other clubs. Projected images only, please. Malcolm Cook (EFIAP) will be the judge for this evening.

January 2010

5th - Speaker - Anthony Fell DPAGB, ARPS, BPE2 will be talking on Natural History photography

12th - Shoot-out 2! – This evening will be spent out and about shooting in Nottingham City Centre. The intention will be to head out as a group and shoot anything interesting that takes our eye. Hopefully we can all take some more quality photos ready for our upcoming Night Cityscapes compeition on 23/03/10. Meeting in town at the water feature in the square for 7.30pm sharp. We will wait at meeting point for 15 mins before moving off to our destinations. See news section for further information.

19th - 3rd Club print & projected images competition - The subject for this third round competition is 'Still Life'. Once again, prints and projected images are acceptable. Roy Madison will be the judge.

26th - Annual showing of the NEMPF exhibition - A showing of the annual competition winners of the North East Midlands Photographic Federation. Watch and enjoy!

February

2nd - Speaker Gary Langley will be coming to the club to give us a talk on his photography. As he describes it the talk will be a "mixed bag" of photos from various genres. His website can be seen here - Gary Langley Photography

5th - Club Dinner (Friday Evening) To be held at The Griffin in Plumtree. You can see details of their website here - The Griffin

9th - Club Night - We are taking the opportunity to have a social evening where we will be discussing the 2010/11 programme and also the club as a whole. There will also be much tea drinking and general banter! On a more serious note though its very important if you can to attend this meeting as we want to hear from all of you! You will be recieving an email shortly asking for your feedback which we would like you to bring along with you on the night so we can get everyones ideas and feedback.

16th - 10 minutes about.... - An opportunity for members to take the podium and talk on a subject of their choice - loosely photography related - for ten minutes or so.

23rd - As part of our exchange with West Bridgford Video & Slide Club, they will be coming to visit us, this time they will be giving us a short presentation of their work.

March

2nd - We shall be running another print mounting session for those who would like to see it again or who previously missed out. Also we will be setting up the projector and laptop to have an informal showing of members images.

9th - Critique evening - Steve Myall EFIAP and member of Keyworth camera Club will be offering advice and assistance on improving our work through critique of members images.

16th - Technique evening - We'll be taking a look at close-up and macro techniques as a practical follow-up to David Fox's talk on November 17th. Committee member Rob Brown will be on hand with practical tips and advice.

23rd - 4th Club print & projected images competition - Our fourth and final round of our print and projected image competition for RPS club members. The subject this time is 'Night Cityscapes' and our judge is Nigel Ward (LRPS)

30th - Annual showing of the Dingwall Exhibition - A slide show exhibition of the photos accepted for the annual Dingwall exhibition of photography.

April

6th - No meeting

13th - Speaker - Sports photographer David White will be delivering a talk

20th - Technique evening "Off Camera Flash" - Malcolm Sales will be coming along for the evening to give us one of his great instructional talks on how to get the best from your flash off the camera.

27th - Richard Boulter Inter-club Knockout Competition - An annual competition run by Rushcliffe Photographic Society. Camera clubs are invited to enter prints for this knockout challenge. Judge for the night will be Anthony Pioli.

May

4th - Summer shoot - Details to be arranged (perhaps a visit to Rufford or Clumber Park)

11th - Critique evening - Another opportunity for members to display some of their recent work and to offer critique of other members work.

18th - AGM - A review of the year, election of committee members and presentation of trophies for competition winners.

25th - Exhibition Evening - An exhibition of members work (prints and projected images) and an open invitation to prospective new members and the public.
